From October 22 to 24, the BRICS Summit convened in Kazan, Russia, drawing representatives from the ten member nations and nearly 40 other states, including key figures from the CIS, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. During the BRICS+/Outreach meeting on the final day, Russia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin, highlighted Ethiopia’s new role in BRICS, emphasizing that it will not only advance the group’s objectives but also significantly support Ethiopia’s economic progress.
Terekhin noted that BRICS members collaborate closely on economic and social challenges, creating a foundation for comprehensive development among the nations involved. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, speaking on the sidelines of the summit, underscored the value of South-South cooperation. He pointed out that dialogues within BRICS can catalyze growth across the Global South, advocating for transparent debt relief processes as essential to sustainable progress. Additionally, Abiy stressed that economic reforms and the collective strength of emerging markets are crucial for achieving unity and global influence.
