Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the role of BRICS countries in promoting an equitable and orderly multi-polar world during a recent meeting of BRICS foreign ministers. He stressed the importance of economic globalization that benefits all nations, advocating for a collaborative approach to global governance.
Wang highlighted the need for common security to achieve lasting peace, asserting that no nation should dominate the global security agenda or pursue its own security at the expense of others. He called on BRICS nations to prioritize development, addressing key challenges such as poverty alleviation, development financing, energy security, and food security, while also leveraging opportunities presented by technological advancements and industrial transformation.
The minister urged BRICS to embrace multilateralism and enhance global governance by ensuring that countries from the Global South have a significant role in international economic decision-making and rule-setting processes. He reiterated the need to amplify the voice and representation of developing nations in global affairs.
In conjunction with this meeting, Wang participated in a session of the Committee of Ten (C10) Heads of State and Government, focusing on UN Security Council reform. He called for increased representation and a stronger voice for developing countries, particularly emphasizing the importance of special arrangements for Africa in the reform process.
